'I wish GST was passed during your tenure': PM to retiring Members in RS
New Delhi, May 13 (UNI) While lamenting that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill could not be passed during the current session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed confidence that the Bill would be passed in the coming session. Bidding farewell to 53 retiring Members in the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister said it would have been good for the states had the GST Bill been passed during their tenure. "I wish the GST would have been passed during your tenure in the Rajya Sabha. This GST will help states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar," Mr Modi said during his farewell speech to the retiring Members. At the same time, he expressed confidence that those among the retiring Members who get renominated to the Upper House would get the Opportunity to pass the Bill. “You didn’t get the chance. But I’m sure all those of you who’ll come back will get this opportunity,” Mr Modi said. Of the 53 Rajya Sabha MPs retiring today, 16 are from the main Opposition Congress, which currently has a total of 65 Members in the Upper House. More UNI AR AE 1235
