2.46 lakh candidates appear for Bengal teacher exam

Kolkata, Sept 14 (UNI) The second round of the School Level Selection Test (SLST) for the recruitment of assistant teachers in West Bengal government-aided schools was held today, with around 2.46 lakh candidates appearing for it.
The test, conducted by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC), was for filling up 12,514 vacancies for Classes 11 and 12 (Higher Secondary).
It was held across 478 centres, beginning at noon and ending at 1.30 pm, while specially-abled candidates were given an additional 30 minutes.

West Bengal CM orders crackdown on illegal sawmills, timber smugglers as Forest Week begins

Kolkata, July 14 (UNI) Two days after ordering a statewide crackdown on illegal liquor and gambling dens, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday directed the Forest Department and the police to launch a concerted drive against illegal sawmills and timber smugglers, warning that organised timber theft must be eliminated even as the state embarks on an ambitious afforestation campaign.
