Bhubaneswar, Oct 3 (UNI) A total of 698 elephants, 48 leopards and seven Royal Bengal tigers have died in Odisha between 2015 and 2023, Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Amat told the state Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a question of Prafulla Samal (BJD), Amat said the elephants and the tigers died due to several reasons including diseases, electrocution, train accidents, road accidents, poaching and poisoning.
The Minister said the state government has taken several steps to prevent the deaths which included strengthening of the animals' natural habitats, plantation of elephant fodder plants, digging artificial ponds and tackling wildfire and poaching
