AAP secures victory in Tarn Taran bypoll, wins by over 12,000 votes; SAD second, Congress fourth, BJP trails fifth

Chandigarh, Nov 14 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) registered a decisive victory in the Tarn Taran Assembly bypoll on Friday, with party candidate Harmeet Sandhu winning by a margin of 12,091 votes. Sandhu secured a total of 42,649 votes, marking his fourth election win from the constituency. The Election Commission is expected to issue the formal declaration shortly.
Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa of the Shiromani Akali Dal finished second with 30,558 votes. Mandeep Singh Khalsa, representing Akali Dal Waris Punjab De, backed by MP Amritpal Singh, claimed the third position with 19,420 votes. The Congress candidate ended in fourth place with 15,078 votes, while the BJP nominee garnered 6,239 votes, failing to reach the 10,000 mark.
The bypoll was necessitated following the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal, who had won the seat in the 2022 Assembly elections. This year’s voter turnout stood at 60.95 per cent, lower than the 65.81 per cent recorded in the previous election.
