ADB joins hands with Thu Dau Mot Water for strategic expansion

New Delhi, Aug 4 (UNI) Asian Development Bank signed a strategic deal of USD 6 million with Thu Dau Mot Water Joint Stock Company (TDM) for collaborating on future water expansion projects. The current collaboration is intended to expand the Bau Bang water treatment plant to tackle the growing water needs amid rapid economic and population development in Ho Chi Minh City.
The allocated amount will be dedicated to increasing the plant's capacity from 30,000 to 80,000 cubic metres per day and ensuring clean water for residents, commercial, and industrial users. Reportedly, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) also joined ADB for cofinancing. JICA is a governmental agency that assists the economic and social growth in developing countries.
Shantanu Chakraborty ( Country Director for Vietnam, ADB) said, “ The expansion of the Bau Bang water treatment plant is essential to ensure a clean and reliable water supply for local consumers, existing businesses, as well as prospective investors looking to establish a presence in the Southern key economic zone of Vietnam.”
“The project will support ongoing economic growth, job creation, and foreign direct investment (FDI ) in Vietnam,” Chakraborty added. Moreover, this project will also align with the government’s equitization reforms and transition towards more progressive mutual development.
Tran The Hung (Director General, Thu Dau Mot Water) said, “ We are committed towards providing high-quality water services to our customers and contributing to the sustainable development of the region.”
