Akhilesh, Rahul leave rally after workers go berserk

Prayagraj, May 19 (UNI) The joint rally of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav was called off after the workers went berserk in their presence on Sunday, official sources said here.
Sources said that the SP chief Akhilesh and Congress leader Rahul came to address a joint rally in Padila of Phulpur parliamentary constituency to campaign for SP candidate Amarnath Yadav. The crowd went out of control as Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav arrived on the stage. Both the leaders appealed to the supporters to remain calm, but no one listened to them.
After seeing the scene visibly irritated Akhilesh got up and left the stage. The leaders present on the stage tried to stop Akhilesh, but he got so angry that he started walking towards the helipad behind the stage.
Rahul also came down from the stage along with Akhilesh. Both the leaders left the stage without addressing the rally and left in a helicopter. The crowd remained out of control for about 15 minutes. They broke the security cordon.
They started moving towards the stage. When the police tried to stop the crowd, they were also pushed and shoved. The crowd climbed on the stage which also broke.
Mahanagar General Secretary of Samajwadi Party Ravindra Yadav blamed BJP and said that seeing the huge crowd of SP, BJP got in a panic. Due to BJP's conspiracy, the administration had not made adequate security arrangements.
When the police tried to stop them, there was pushing and shoving. Many supporters got injured.
