We must devise a method to help. It’s very disheartening to see the situation. They are the ones who feed us, therefore, we must take care of them. We need to get to the root cause of the problem. They must get their due,” the Chief Minister said. Mr Akshay Kumar also expressed concern over increasing numbers quitting farming for more lucrative professions. He stressed the need to run a campaign for the cause of farmers and farming. “We must come forward to help them. People are not happy to farming, we must go back to our roots. It is very important. We need to have a campaign for the cause,” the Bollywood actor said. In his discussions with the actor, the Chief Minister said the farmers' plight was largely due to hoarding of farm produce and undue profiteering by the middlemen. ' 'Issues like the drug menace in Punjab and how it was affecting a whole generation were also discussed during the meeting,' the official said. The Aam Aadmi Party, which is considered as an active player for the coming assembly poll in Punjab, has been campaigning against the drug menace in the state affecting the youth.
