Allowing food vendors on Shimla Ridge & Mall Road prompts protests

Shimla, June 20 (UNI) Business association of Lakkar Bazar here in the Himachal capital held a one-day symbolic shutdown to protest against the encroachment on heritage sites like the Shimla Ridge and Mall Road.
For years, the Mall Road and the Ridge, known for their historical and scenic beauty, have been crowded with food stalls and street vendors. These vendors, allowed by the Shimla Municipal Corporation (MC) and the state government, have spoiled the charm of the route.
Local shopkeepers and restaurant owners, represented by the Bepar Mandal, are unhappy. They believe the presence of these vendors is harming their businesses and damaging the beauty of the heritage sites.
