AP: Cockfights held in bigway at coastal AP districts on Sankranti

Vijayawada, Jan 15 (UNI) The cockfights were held on Thursday at many places across the Andhra districts defying the high court order. Massive arrangements including installing floodlights, LEDscreens, huge arenas using drone cameras and erecting rainproof tents were made to organize cockfights on the occasion of Sankranti festival.
The cockfights are held during the three days of Sankranti festival. Since the organisers of cockfights have the patronage oflocal political leaders, the blood sports were organised openly in which thousands of people participated. Large number of people, including film personalities and other celebrities took part in the cockfights at variousplaces on Thursday.
Interestingly, a mega outdoor stadium was constructed with agallery especially to organize cockfights at Tataguntla village in NTR district on a 10 acres of land. When the police went there, the cockfight organisers argued that theydid not tie sharp blades to the legs of roosters and organized cockfights traditionally.
