AP to Develop Integrated Aqua Corridor Linking Six Major Centres: CM Naidu

Visakhapatnam, June 5 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced plans to establish an integrated Aqua Corridor connecting Amaravati, Bhimavaram, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Krishnapatnam and Nellore, positioning the state as the hub of India’s blue economy.
Addressing the National Workshop on Seafood Exports in Visakhapatnam, the Chief Minister said the proposed corridor would bring together research institutions, innovation centres, startups and advanced technologies to strengthen the aquaculture sector, improve productivity and reduce production costs.
Naidu also unveiled the “Andhra Shrimp, India Seafood” branding i nitiative aimed at enhancing the global visibility and marketability of Indian seafood products.
He said the branding effort would help boost exports and strengthen India's position in international seafood markets.
Describing the blue economy as a critical pillar of India's future growth, the Chief Minister said, “We must work with the vision of ‘Pond to Port, Farmer to Global Consumer and Blue Economy to Viksit Bharat’. Andhra Pradesh can play a major role in fulfilling India's aspirations through the blue economy.”
He welcomed the participation of union Ministers representing key departments linked to fisheries and aquaculture, saying it reflected the Centre’s commitment to the sector’s growth.
The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction over union Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh announcing ₹72 crore for the modernisation of Kakinada Port.
He also assured that the State Government would allocate land for the regional office of the union Fisheries Department within 15 days and urged the Centre to commence construction within a month.
Calling for greater Central support, Naidu sought the establishment of Mega Seafood Processing Parks and measures to expand India's seafood exports.
He reiterated the State Government’s full cooperation in implementing initiatives aimed at strengthening the aquaculture ecosystem.
Highlighting Andhra Pradesh’s leadership in the sector, Naidu said the state accounts for 28 per cent of India’s fish production, 66 per cent of shrimp production and nearly 38 per cent of the country’s seafood export earnings.
With a coastline stretching over 1,053 kilometres and abundant water resources from the Krishna and Godavari river systems, the state produces nearly 19.7 million metric tonnes of seafood annually and exports seafood worth more than ₹28,000 crore every year.
He stressed that quality, sustainability, traceability, innovation and zero pollution should be the guiding principles for the sector’s future growth and urged stakeholders to adopt modern technologies and environmentally responsible practices.
Inviting entrepreneurs and investors to Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to a “Speed of Doing Business” approach and would provide all necessary support for investments in aquaculture, seafood processing and related industries.
Naidu also underscored the need to increase seafood processing capacity, noting that only about 12 per cent of seafood production currently undergoes processing.
He sought Central Government support to address challenges such as rising fish feed costs, excessive fish meal exports and soybean availability.
The Chief Minister welcomed the Centre’s efforts to negotiate Free Trade Agreements and open new international markets for Indian seafood products.
He expressed confidence that Indian seafood would soon find a place in kitchens around the world.
He further announced that Andhra Pradesh would implement the PMMKSSY scheme and assured resolution of issues concerning the Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour. The State Government is also facilitating the induction of 200 modernised fishing boats to improve the livelihoods of fishing communities.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership, Naidu said India has made remarkable progress over the past decade and continues to strengthen its position among the world’s leading economies.
The Chief Minister said the Government of India has set a target of achieving USD 30 billion in annual seafood exports, and Andhra Pradesh is prepared to contribute at least 30 per cent towards that goal.
He also appreciated Central support for projects in Bhimavaram aimed at integrating the aquaculture sector with the circular economy.
