Guwahati, Oct 2 (UNI) The daily wage of tea workers in Assam has been hiked by Rs 18 with effect from October 1, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday after a state Cabinet meeting here.
Briefing reporters on the Cabinet decisions Biswa Sarma said the daily wage of tea workers in Assam's Brahmaputra Valley has been hiked from Rs 232 to Rs 250. The daily wage of tea workers in Assam's Barak Valley has been hiked from Rs 210 to Rs 228. In each case, the wages have been hiked by Rs 18.
Similarly, the Cabinet decided to give a 20 per cent puja bonus to tea workers of Assam. The Assam government will give the bonus under the Assam Tea Corporation Limited, he said
It may be noted that three percent of the seats will be reserved in Assam government jobs for tea workers or Adivasis. However, the candidates are required to submit a non-creamy layer certificate. The reservation will apply to the posts of Assam Police, which will be advertised on October 7, he said.
Sarma said: "Five per cent seats have been reserved in medical and engineering colleges for students who have studied from class seven to ten in government educational institutions and later studied under the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA)". UNI XC SSP
