Ballot paper row: CM questions BJP’s stone-age jibe

Koppal, Sep 6 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today mounted a sharp attack on the BJP, questioning why it was afraid of the ballot paper, while defending his government’s decision to recommend a return to the traditional system of voting for local body elections.
Siddaramaiah countered the BJP’s criticism by pointing out that several advanced nations, including the United States, continue to rely on paper ballots. "If America and other developed countries have not gone back to the stone age by using ballot paper, how can it be called regressive here? Why is the BJP so scared of ballot paper?” he asked, rejecting the saffron party’s charge that his government’s decision was a step backwards.
The Chief Minister argued that ballot paper is still trusted worldwide and dismissed the BJP’s remarks as an attempt to divert attention from genuine concerns about the credibility of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). "Statements that we will go back to the stone age by using ballot paper is not right," he said.
