Barmer in Raj sizzles at 48 C as SW Monsoon advances

Pune, May 23 (UNI) While favourable conditions will help in the advance of Southwest Monsoon over some more parts of south Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andaman Sea and some parts of east-central Bay of Bengal over the next two days, extreme high temperatures have been experiences in vast areas across the peninsula with Barmer in Rajasthan recording 48 degrees Celsius.

Day temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Punjab; and at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Gujarat state, Rajasthan.
