Bengal cabinet orders fresh OBC review, scraps existing sub-categorisation

Kolkata, May 18 (UNI) In a major decision with significant political and legal implications, the newly formed BJP government in West Bengal on Monday announced a fresh review of the state’s Other Backward Classes (OBC) list and scrapped the existing sub-categorisation structure linked to reservation in state government jobs and posts.
The decision was taken at the second cabinet meeting of the new government chaired by Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari at Nabanna.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, state minister Agnimitra Paul said, “The cabinet decided to abolish the existing sub-classification system within the OBC category and revisit the percentage of reservation for OBC communities under the West Bengal government and conduct a fresh review of the state OBC list.”
