Bengal lights up the night again: ‘Reclaim the Night’ marks one year of RG Kar protests

Kolkata, Aug 14 (UNI): Kolkata and several districts of West Bengal glowed through Thursday night as thousands poured into the streets to mark the first anniversary of the Reclaim the Night movement, demanding justice in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case.

From the bustling 8B intersection in Jadavpur to the quiet lanes of Lake Town, public spaces transformed into platforms for defiance. Women, students, doctors, social groups, and Left organisations stood shoulder to shoulder—singing protest songs, reciting poetry, painting pavements, and chanting the unyielding refrain: “We want justice.”

Bengal CM announces jobs for families of 315 post-poll violence victims

Kolkata, June 7 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday announced that a member from each of the families of BJP workers allegedly killed in post-poll violence following the 2021 Assembly elections would be provided government jobs this month, along with a one-time financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
