BJP decimates Congress, scripts massive victory in MP Assembly polls

Bhopal, Dec 3 (UNI) The BJP, which has held sway over Madhya Pradesh for approximately 18 of the last 20 years, emphatically scotched speculation of ‘anti-incumbency’ as it decimated the Congress and secured a two-thirds majority in the Assembly poll vote count on Sunday.
According to official figures available till midnight, the BJP has won 163 of the total 230 seats, and garnered a vote share of close to 49 percent. The Congress was compelled to be content with 65 seats but was ahead in one more, its vote share being in the region of 40 percent. The Bharat Adivasi Party picked up the remaining seat. The BSP could not open its account but took a vote share of roughly 3.5 percent.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan – whose astronomical victory margin exceeded a lakh – and the bulk of other BJP stalwarts emerged victorious.
