BJP, TMC clash over attack on leaders in flood-hit Bengal

Kolkata, Oct 7 (UNI) Darjeeling's rain-ravaged hills are fast emerging as Bengal's new political battleground, with union Minister Kiren Rijiju warning a day after the attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh in Nagrakata that any delay by the West Bengal government in submitting a ground report to the Lok Sabha Speaker could invite a privilege motion.
Rijiju, who is on a visit to North Bengal, said in Jalpaiguri today, "We spoke on the attack on the MP and MLA in North Bengal. The Lok Sabha Speaker sent a notice and sought a report from the state government yesterday. If there is a delay in the report, we will take action under the Privilege Motion. This is not just about MP-MLA, every citizen must be given security."
"I have come here to assess the damage in the hilly areas due to rainfall and floods. On behalf of the Prime Minister, I have come to meet the flood-affected people and the families of those who died. I will report to the PM after assessing the damage," he said.
