Bommai takes on Cong, says Gandhiji was first to advocate cow slaughter ban

Bengaluru, June 4 (UNI) Reacting to Congress government's intentions to relook into cow slaughter ban law in Karnataka, former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday recalled Mahatma Gandhi who was the first to advocate it and added that allowing it would give rise to large scale smuggling of cows and mass slaughtering factories in the state.
The former CM was reacting to incumbent Congress Minister K Venkatesh's statement in favour of cow slaughter.
"Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was the first to advocate the ban on cow slaughter. A ban on cow slaughter advocated by Venerable Mahatma Gandhi was enacted in several states in the 1960s. With the Minister's statement, large-scale smuggling of cows and mass slaughtering factories in the state will rise," he tweeted.
