CBDT extends due date for filing of IT Returns to Aug 5

New Delhi, Jul 30 (UNI) The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended due date for filing of Income Tax Returns to August 5, 2016.
The due date for filing of Income tax returns by certain persons under the Income Tax Act was July 31 of the following year.
However, taking into consideration the strike by Public Sector Banks (PSBs) on July 29, 2016 and the last date for filing of returns being a Sunday (July 31, 2016), the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the last date for such returns, which were due on July 31, 2016 to August 5, 2016. This extension would apply to tax payers all over India, except the state of J&K.
For tax payers located in Jammu and Kashmir, the CBDT has decided to extend the last date for such returns, which were due on July 31, 2016 to August 31, 2016, in view of the general disruption of normal life in the last few days.
