New Delhi/Hyderabad, July 9 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has urged Union Fertilisers and Chemicals Minister J P Nadda to ensure the timely supply of urea allocated to the state, especially during the crucial monsoon cropping season.
During a meeting held at the Union Minister’s official residence in New Delhi on Tuesday, the Chief Minister expressed concern that Telangana received only 3.07 lakh metric tons of urea between April and June, as against the required 5 lakh metric tons for the Kharif season.
He emphasised that with major irrigation projects receiving water and cultivation activities underway, any further delay in fertiliser supply could severely impact farmers.
Revanth Reddy informed the Minister that for the month of July, Telangana is supposed to receive 63,000 metric tons of domestically produced urea and 97,000 metric tons of imported urea. However, as of now, only 29,000 metric tons have been supplied.
The Chief Minister appealed for an increase in the allocation of domestically produced urea to the state and flagged the issue of insufficient railway rakes being allocated for urea transport. He urged the Union Minister to intervene and direct the Railways Department to provide more rakes to ensure seamless delivery.
The meeting was also attended by Telangana government’s Sports Advisor A.P. Jitender Reddy, MPs Dr. Mallu Ravi and Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Ajith Reddy, State Agriculture Secretary Raghunandan Rao, and Central Schemes Coordination Secretary Dr. Gaurav Uppal, an official statement said.
