Cong against Raj's ideology; set to contest BMC polls independently

Mumbai Nov 18 (UNI) Maharashtra Congress does not accept the ideology promoted by MNS chief Raj Thackeray, said party spokesperson Sachin Sawant today amid intensifying demands from within Congress to contest the Mumbai civic polls independently.
"The MNS ideology created an atmosphere of fear in the past. Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has, under the guise of promoting pride for the Marathi language, fostered an environment of intimidation," Sawant said, adding "it is something the Congress cannot support."
Meanwhile, Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad has stated that Mumbai residents and grassroots workers want Congress to contest on its own. Her remark strengthens the perception that the party has already decided to contest independently, and that its alliance partners at the state level would be taken into confidence.
