Cong alleges corruption in Delhi's pollution control funds, demands probe

New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav on Sunday alleged that massive corruption in the utilization of funds meant to combat pollution is the primary reason for the capital's persistent air quality crisis. He called for an investigation into the expenditure of thousands of crores of rupees over the past decade.
Addressing a press conference, Yadav stated that severe air pollution has become the biggest challenge for life in Delhi, a situation he attributed to the "political selfishness" of both the incumbent BJP and the previous AAP governments. He cited data from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, claiming that Rs 53,052 crore was spent on pollution-related measures between 2017 and October 2025, with no perceptible improvement in air quality.
"The Central Government along with the Delhi Government is equally responsible," Yadav said. He highlighted under-utilization of allocated budgets, pointing to the 2024-25 fiscal year where less than 1% of an Rs. 858 crore budget was reportedly used. For the current year (2025-26), he noted that against a total allocation of Rs. 1,885 crore for pollution control and environment, only Rs. 300 crore was spent on pollution control measures, Rs. 506 crore on tree plantation, and Rs. 750 crore on Yamuna cleaning.
