Kundgol, Jan 28 (UNI) In a vitriolic attack on opposition parties in Karnataka, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday accused Congress leaders of performing Aarti of Gandhi family and top JDS leaders for fielding their family members for elections.
"Congress only does aarti of Gandhi family, and in JDS grandfather, son, grandson, their wives, and grandson's son. Everyone wants to contest polls ... youths should tell, do they have a place in that party? The youth has a place only in the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he said.
Listing out various pro-people programmes of the BJP government, Shah said PM Modi has laboured to make the country secure from terrorist attacks, abrogated Article 370, and constructed Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
He appealed to the people to give clear mandate to the BJP in the state and rout the pariwar wadis (dynasts) and the corrupt.
Shah made these comments during a road show as a part of Vijaya Sankalp Abhiyan in Kundgol ahead of assembly elections in the state.
Shah was mounted on a specially decorated open vehicle, for over a kilometer distance from Basavanna Devara Matha to Gali Mariyamma temple. He was greeted with loud cheers of "Modi, Modi" chants.
The former National BJP President was accompanied by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa, party's Karnataka incharge Arun Singh, Karnataka President Nalin Kumar Kateel, former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, along the road show.
Along the road show, people showered flower petals at the vehicle carrying Shah and state BJP leaders, amidst the beating of drums and chants of Bharat Mata ki Jai.
Kusumavati Channabasappa Shivalli of the Congress is the sitting MLA of Kundgol Assembly segment. She had won the seat in 2019 bypolls, after the seat fell vacant following the death of her husband and then sitting MLA CS Shivalli.
