Congress attacks Centre over VB-G RAM G rollout, calls it ‘headline-grabbing exercise’

New Delhi, May 11 (UNI) The Congress on Monday mounted a sharp attack on the Centre over the proposed rollout of the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025, alleging that the new scheme intended to replace MGNREGA was aimed at centralising powers and weakening the rights of rural workers.
Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said the union Ministry of Rural Development’s latest press release on the proposed VB-G RAM G Act “adds nothing new” and accused the Narendra Modi government of indulging in “lazy headline-grabbing exercises.”
In a statement, Ramesh said, “Today’s press release by the union Ministry of Rural Development on VB-G RAM G adds nothing new to what is already known. It is yet another lazy headline-grabbing exercise by a Govt that specialises in such exercises.”
