Congress MLA Amin Patel flags Mumbai's acute water shortage in Assembly; 600–800 ML daily shortfall.

Nagpur, Dec 11 (UNI) Congress MLA Amin Patel on Thursday raised an alarm in the Maharashtra Assembly over Mumbai's worsening water shortage, warning that the city could plunge into a major crisis if the monsoon fails even for a single year.
He said the metropolis is currently grappling with a daily shortfall of nearly 600 to 800 million litres of water, a deficit that has persisted despite rapid growth in population and demand.
Patel pointed out that since the completion of the Middle Vaitarna project, no new dam has been constructed to augment Mumbai's drinking water supply. He said the lack of alternative water sources has left the city vulnerable and overly dependent on its existing reservoirs. The MLA urged the state government to expedite the Gargai dam project, calling it essential for securing Mumbai's long-term water needs.
