Council Polls:BJP wins 4, 1 goes to independent

Lucknow, Feb 3 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won all the three seats of graduate constituency and one of teachers constituency out of five in the biennial elections for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council of Friday.
Only one Kanpur division teachers constituency seat was won by sitting MLC and independent candidate Raj Bahadur Singh Chandel. The results were formally announced by the Chief Electoral Officer of UP.
In Gorakhpur, the home district of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP candidate and sitting MLC Devendra Pratap Singh won Gorakhpur-Faizabad division graduates seat by a margin of 17,455 votes defeating his nearest rival Karuna Kant Maurya of Samajwadi Party (SP). While 51,699 votes were polled in favour of Devendra Pratap, Maurya received 34,244 votes. This constituency covers 17 districts in UP.
