New Delhi, Jun 29 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) has written a letter to the Election Commission complaining that the poll body is changing the voting process without consulting political parties.
CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury has written to Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora to complain that the new voting procedures cannot be implemented without consensus from all political parties. He has written that even when the Model Code of Conduct was adopted as a major reform in elections, there was consensus among political parties before that. Apart from this, other changes were implemented only after discussions with all political parties.
Recently, on the request of the Law Ministry, the Commission had arranged postal ballots for voters with disabilities and those above 80 years. Apart from this, in the context of COVID-19, postal ballot facility was given to voters above the age of 65 after the suggestion from the Law Ministry on June 19.
