CPI(M) using State Election Commission for shadow war: BJP

Thiruvananthapuram, July 12 (UNI) Accusing the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala of using the State Election Commission for a shadow war, BJP State General Secretary MT Ramesh said today that the voter list update process for the upcoming local body elections is being indefinitely delayed due to political motives.
“There is a deliberate attempt to hinder the voter list revision process. The CPI(M) is trying to prevent voters from participating in the upcoming local body elections," said MT Ramesh.
Urging the State Election Commission to rectify the technical flaws in the voter registration process, the BJP warned that failure to address these issues could result in many eligible voters being excluded from the list.
In response, State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan informed BJP leaders that an all-party meeting would be held on July 19 to discuss the matter.
In a memorandum, the BJP highlighted that the current voter registration system is complex and not user-friendly. The party demanded the implementation of a simpler and more accessible system to ensure public convenience.
MT Ramesh has called for an end to the alleged manipulation of the voter list process by the government, warning of potential serious irregularities. He emphasized the need for the Election Commission to implement voter-friendly measures. "If the EC is unable to do then the BJP may approach the court" he said.
Ramesh's statement highlights concerns about the electoral process's integrity and transparency. His threat to approach the court underscores the BJP's commitment to ensuring a fair and democratic process.
