Death toll rises to 233 in Balasore train tragedy, Naveen announces state mourning for a day

Bhubaneswar, June 3 (UNI) The death toll in the one of the deadliest train accidents in the country at Bahanaga in Balasore on Friday evening, the death toll rose to 233, Odisha Chief Secretary P K Jena said.
In a tweet, the Chief Secretary said the ‘’death toll rises to 233 in the Balasore train accident.
As per the latest report over 900 passengers have been rescued and admitted to different hospitals.
Meanwhile Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered for a state mourning for a day. No state celebration would take place on June 3 throughout the day.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Railway Minister Ashiwini Vaishnaw, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan are scheduled to reach the accident this morning and review the situation.
A technical team of the Railway made an aerial survey of the accident site early Saturday morning.
Meanwhie the railway minister has already ordered a high-level inquiry into the accident.
The Chief Secretary said three trains were involved in the accident., Shalimar Chennai Coromondal express, Yeshawantpur -Howrah express and a goods train.
The chief Secretary said 45 mobile health teams with doctors and paramedics have aso been mobilised to the accident site.
It included five teams from Kendrapara, 16 from Jaipur, ten from Bhadrak and 14 from Balasore.
SRC, DG Fire service, Principal secretary Industries, three other top bureaucrats, IG Police service and SPs of Balasore and Bhadrak Additional DG Railway, Transport Commissioners are camping in the accident site to monitor and supervise the rescue operation.
The rescue operation is on and would continue for some more time, sources said.
