New Delhi, Apr 15 (UNI) A Delhi Court on Monday extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till April 23 in the money laundering case linked to the excise policy scam.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Court extended the Judicial custody of Kejriwal for 8 days as the previous 14 days of judicial custody ended today.
Kejriwal was produced virtually before the court.
The Delhi Chief Minister has simultaneously approached the Supreme Court challenging his arrest and remand thereof.
The Apex court today issued notice to the ED and asked them to reply to Kejriwal’s plea challenging his arrest by April 23.
Kejriwal was arrested on the night of March 21. On March 22, the trial court remanded him to six days of ED custody, which was extended by a further four days. He was remanded to judicial custody on April 1.
Earlier on April 10, the Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest, observing that ED was able to place enough material, on record and statements of approvers and AAP's candidate stating that Kejriwal was given money for Goa elections.
The Delhi Chief Minister has challenged the said order of the Delhi High Court bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma before the Supreme Court.
According to ED, Kejriwal skipped nine summons issued to him by the investigating agency.
AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are also accused in the case. While Singh was recently granted bail by the Supreme Court, Sisodia continues to remain in jail.
BRS leader K Kavitha is also an accused in the case and is in Judicial Custody till April 23. Her regular bail application will come up for hearing on Tuesday. However, Kejriwal has not moved any bail application so far.
