Bengaluru, Nov 28 (UNI) The Election Commission has stopped the advertisements of Congress government in Karnataka from publishing in Telangana ahead of the assembly election.
The EC stalled the ads after the BJP filed a complaint with them on Monday, alleging that the Karnataka government violated the Representation of the People Act and the Model Code of Conduct by publishing advertisements in Telangana media with an aim to garner votes.
The state election in Telangana is scheduled on November 30.
The EC also sought an explanation from Karnataka government for not seeking prior approval to publish the ad in Telangana media as mandated under the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
Countering EC's action, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday said the ads of Karnataka government is not violative of rules as the Congress party was not seeking votes.
"The ads were only aimed at speeading awareness of the work done by Karnataka government amidst opposition parties alleging that it did not fulfill any of its guarantees. We haven't sought votes for this," he said.
Telangana's ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) too had approached the poll panel on the issue.
