ED Attaches Properties Worth ₹65.60 Lakh in Disproportionate Assets Case Against NFR Engineer

New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Guwahati Zonal Office, today said it has attached three immovable properties worth Rs. 65.60 lakh in a disproportionate assets case involving Hem Chandra Borah, Deputy Chief Engineer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), and his wife, Gayatree Saikia, a government school teacher at Bhaskar Bidyapith Higher Secondary School, Guwahati.
The ED initiated the PMLA investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI had also filed a charge sheet in the matter.
The ED investigation, based on a detailed analysis of the CBI charge sheet and independent enquiries under the PMLA, revealed that during the check period from April 1, 2016, to January 17, 2021, Hem Chandra Borah, in connivance with his wife, Gayatree Saikia, allegedly accumulated assets grossly disproportionate to their known sources of income to the tune of Rs. 73.76 lakh. This constituted 86.88 per cent of their total income from all known legitimate sources during the said period.
