The movie, directed by Ramesh Sippy and released on August 15, 1975, featured veterans like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmender, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar and Amjad Khan in significant roles. Sholay, which was the first Hindi flick to be screened with stereophonic sound track and to use the 70 mm wide screen format, opened on this very day at Minerva talkies in Mumbai.
