Probe into environmental abuses in Kantara filming

Bengaluru, Jan 20 (UNI) Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre on Monday ordered an investigation into the alleged environmental violations during the filming of Kantara: Chapter 1.
The move follows complaints regarding the use of explosives by the film crew in eco-sensitive areas.
The prequel to the critically acclaimed Kantara (2022) was shot in the lush, green locales of Gavibetta and surrounding areas in Sakleshpur taluk, located in Hassan district.
The film's production team had obtained permission to shoot on land adjacent to the forest for a duration of 23 days, subject to conditions set by the Assistant Conservator of Forests in Hassan.
However, concerns were raised when it was alleged that the crew repeatedly used explosives during filming, prompting a formal complaint to be filed at the Yesalur police station.
Minister Khandre, addressing media queries, said, "I have asked officials to visit the location and assess the situation. If the film crew is found to have violated the terms of their permission, action will be taken, and the filming will be halted immediately."
The investigation is underway, with local authorities under pressure to ensure that the integrity of the region's fragile ecosystem is upheld. UNI BDN SSP
