Five Indian fishermen go missing in Bay of Bengal after trawler is hit by Bangladeshi vessel

Kolkata, Dec 15 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) began an intensive search operation in the Bay of Bengal for five Indian fishermen who went missing after their trawler capsized when it was allegedly slammed by a Bangladeshi vessel in the early hours of Monday, sources at Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas said.
With 16 fishermen on board, the FB Paramita, which sailed into deep water fishing from Kakdwip ghat in the Sundarbans of South 24 Parganas on Sunday, was reportedly hit by a Bangladesh Navy ship early on Monday, toppling the trawler, which later capsized.
However, the fishermen of another trawler of the same owner, which was following, rescued and evacuated 11 fellow fishermen before they were swept away by the waves. The trawler capsized immediately after being slammed by the Bangladeshi vessel, which reportedly sped past without rescuing the floating men in the cold water, sources at Kakdwip said.
