Germany open World Cup with 7-1 demolition of Curacao

Houston, June 14 (UNI) Germany opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup Group Stage campaign with a statement of intent, producing a devastating attacking performance to crush debutants Curacao 7-1 at the NRG Stadium on Sunday.
In a match that briefly promised intrigue after an early setback, Germany’s superior tempo, precision passing and relentless forward pressure eventually overwhelmed a spirited but outclassed Curacao side.
Germany struck early through Felix Nmecha in the 6th minute, setting the tone for what became a one-sided contest. Nico Schlotterbeck doubled the advantage in the 38th minute, finishing off sustained German pressure that pinned Curacao deep inside their own half for long spells.
