Glen Powell poised to lead Sam Esmail's original sci-fi film 'Tesseract'

Los Angeles, Jan 16 (UNI) Glen Powell is in advanced talks to take the lead in "Tesseract", an original science-fiction feature to be written and directed by Sam Esmail.
The project further cements Powell's status as one of Hollywood's most in-demand leading men while marking another ambitious genre outing for Esmail, reports DEADLINE.
The project is being produced by United Artists ' Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt, alongside Esmail and Chad Hamilton under the Esmail Corp banner. Powell himself, through Barnstorm, is also in discussions to produce the film with partner Dan Cohen.
Like with anything related to Esmail, plot details are being kept under wraps, other than it being an original sci-fi feature. The project is another high-profile package landed by Stuber since setting his new deal at Amazon; he recently landed the coveted Heat 2 from Michael Mann.
Once a deal closes for Powell, the project will be a high priority for the studio, though not next up for the busy star, who is about to shoot the second season of Chad Powers and will likely follow that up with the untitled Judd Apatow comedy at Universal in the spring.
Powell is coming off a busy year that included Hulu’s Chad Powers, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination, and starring in the Paramount sci-fi action pic The Running Man. This year looks to be just as busy as he will be seen next in the A24 pic "How To Make a Killing" opposite Margaret Qualley, as well as the new project from J.J. Abrams.
For Esmail, "Tesseract" follows his most recent directorial effort, "Leave the World Behind", which starred Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke. UNI NST SSP
