Gorakhnath temple attack accused gets capital punishment

Lucknow (UP), Jan 30 (UNI) Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi, who was accused of attacking Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur and injuring security personnel in April last year, was awarded capital punishment by a special ATS-NIA court here on Monday, prosecution sources said.
The sources said that Special Judge ATS Court Vivekanand Sharan Tripathi pronounced the quantum of punishment after holding the accused guilty. He was brought to the court amidst tight security arrangements.
After the court announced its order, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that the judgement was passed after a record hearing for 60 consecutive days. He said that Murtaza has been awarded capital punishment for attempting to wage a car against the country.
