Governors protect Constitution, not Cong lies: LoP Ashoka

Bengaluru, Jan 21 (UNI) Legislative Assembly Opposition Leader R Ashoka on Wednesday accused the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government of misusing the Governor’s speech as a political tool, asserting that Governors are constitutional guardians and "not obligated to echo the government’s bundle of lies."
In a press statement, he said, "Governors are not spokespersons of the Congress government; they are protectors of the Constitution. By undermining their dignity, the Congress government is directly attacking the Constitution and the federal system."
Ashok clarified that Articles 175 and 176 of the Indian Constitution empower Governors to address the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, but there is no rule compelling them to read every word in a government-prepared script. He also cited Article 163, which allows Governors discretionary powers, enabling them to omit objectionable, hateful, or anti-constitutional elements.
