Chandigarh, Nov 14 (UNI) Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Thursday said that he had sent his resignation from the post after the party's poor performance in the Lok Sabha election earlier this year.
The BJP failed to win any seat from the state, after contested the elections on its own on all the 13 parliamentary seats as its old partner Shiromani Akali Dal had broken the alliance in the wake of farmers' agitation in 2020-21 over three farm bills.
Jakhar, speaking to the media, said that his resignation was still pending with the party leadership and they could remove him from the party president post anytime. He said that though the party's vote percentage had increased but it could not win a single seat. So he had met the Party's National President JP Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked them to relieve him from his post.
Notably, the reports of Jakhar's resignation surfaced last month, but the BJP denied the same. Meanwhile, Jakhar has stayed away from the party's campaign for the Panchayat elections and bye-elections on four seats of the state scheduled for November 20. UNI GS MR SSP
