HC seeks status report in IPS suicide case, questions grounds for CBI probe

Chandigarh, Nov 10 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court has sought a detailed status report from the Chandigarh Administration in the alleged suicide of senior Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar.
During a hearing on Monday, a bench comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjiv Berry asked the administration to clarify the current stage of the investigation and whether the case meets the conditions necessary for transferring it to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The court was hearing a petition seeking a CBI inquiry into the incident. While examining the plea, the bench observed that the grounds cited for transferring the case appeared “general and vague.” The judges asked the petitioner’s counsel to specify whether the case satisfies the criteria laid down by the Supreme Court for assigning an investigation to the CBI.
