Heightened security across Delhi on I-Day, COVID guidelines strictly enforced

New Delhi, Aug 15 (UNI) Multi-layered security arrangements were in place across the city, especially at vital installations and places of high foot-fall on Friday, the 74th Independence Day.
The security personnel were well equipped with their gears and additionally were seen wearing masks and adhering to other COVID prevention measures.
Delhi Police had made multi-layered security arrangements with extra care this time, amid the ongoing COVID-19 situation with deployment of additional force and provisions to avoid crowding of people around Red Fort, the main venue of the event.
The National Security Guard, Special Protection Group and other security agencies, including the Central Armed Police Forces, were seen holding the ground to avert any untoward situation.
The roof tops within close proximity of the Red Fort were secured by the security personnel who stood guard keeping a hawk-eye on the surroundings.
High-rise buildings in the Lutyens zone, New Delhi were also secured in view of the national event.
Traffic arrangements were in place in the surrounding areas and roads leading to the Red Fort had controlled movement of public.
Thousands of force personnel were on duty round the clock for the low-key celebrations and all the agencies worked in close coordination with each other to cater to all kinds of threat inputs.
The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams of Delhi Police, including special units like Parakram vans, were seen strategically stationed at places of importance and vital installations across the city.
Deployment of security personnel was both in plain clothes and uniform with high-tech communication gears and other equipment.
More focussed and additional Facial Recognition Systems were set up at vantage points for suspect identification in view of the COVID-19 situation, police sources said here.

Heightened security arrangements were visible across important locations such as the Raisina Hill and the adjoining areas while all the district DCPs exercised the city wide alert in their respective areas of responsibility.
