Himachal: Lahaul-Spiti warns tourists about frozen rivers

Keylong, Jan 15(UNI) The Lahaul Spiti district administration has issued a stringent advisory cautioning tourists and local residents against venturing near frozen riverbanks, particularly along the Chandra and the Bhaga rivers, warning that such acts pose a grave threat to life during the harsh winter months.
The advisory was issued by the after a recent video surfaced on social media showing two tourists making a narrow escape after approaching the edge of a frozen river.
Officials said the tourists mistook the ice-covered surface for stable ground, but the ice suddenly cracked due to strong undercurrents beneath, nearly pulling them into the icy waters. Timely intervention by local people and rescuers averted a major tragedy.
