HIV infection prevalent among drug users: HPSACS

Shimla, Nov 8 (UNI) The prevalence of HIV among drug users in Himachal Pradesh has become a critical concern, as the use of shared syringes significantly increases the transmission rate, according to the Project director of the Himachal Pradesh AIDS Control Society (HPSACS) on Friday.
Speaking at a media sensitization workshop here, he revealed that 50 new HIV cases were identified in the state from a sample of 400 individuals, highlighting an urgent need for intervention.
The HPSACS reported that the infection rate is particularly high among youth involved in drug use. The Society has been running awareness campaigns, with a specific focus on educating young people to prevent further spread of the virus through unsafe drug practices.
