HP to revamp school history syllabus with focus on freedom movement

Solan, Jan 21 (UNI) In a move to deepen patriotic consciousness among students, the Himachal Pradesh government has decided to redesign the middle school history curriculum with a sharper focus on India’s freedom movement and the contributions of earlier generations.
From the 2027–28 academic session, students of Classes VI to VIII would study National History alongside Himachal Pradesh’s cultural heritage, ancient temples, forts, and landmark movements such as the Prajamandal and Pajouta movements.
The initiative is being undertaken by the Education Department in collaboration with the Directorate of Education and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). During a review meeting at SCERT, Solan, the first draft of the revised curriculum was presented to Education Minister Rohit Thakur, who suggested further strengthening of the content to ensure relevance and depth.
