IN-SPACe scores century with SSLV technology transfer to HAL

Chennai, Sep 10 (UNI) The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) today said it has scored a century of space technology transfers.
The 100th Technology Transfer Agreement (ToT) was signed between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) and IN-SPACe with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the production of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV).
Aimed at advancing India's capabilities in space technology and commercial activities, the agreement is a formative step towards democratising the SSLV space, IN-SPACe said.
The entire process of technology transfer is targeted to be completed within 24 months from the date of agreement signing.
During this period, ISRO will provide necessary training and technical support to HAL for acquiring the knowhow of the SSLV, from commercials to technology integration, eventually leading to the accomplishment of the two missions under the technology transfer agreement, IN-SPACe said.
This is expected to enhance India’s national capacity to cater to the rapidly growing domestic and global satellite launch markets.
This signing follows the June 20th announcement of HAL as the successful bidder in a competitive process managed by IN-SPACe.
The Indian aircraft maker won the tender quoting Rs 511 crore, outbidding consortiums led by Adani Group’s Alpha Design and Bharat Dynamics Ltd.
The SSLV is the second successful rocket manufacturing bid by HAL. Earlier the company along with engineering giant Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) won the bid to make five Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLV)-another rocket from ISRO.
''Technology transfer includes comprehensive design, manufacturing, quality control, integration, launch operations, and post-flight analysis documentation, as well as training and support for technology absorption,” HAL had said earlier.
Speaking on the technology transfer, Dr V. Narayanan, Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, ISRO, said: “With India’s liberalisation of the commercial space sector, opportunities are certainly growing, and at ISRO, we have a dynamic technology transfer mechanism to realise the shared goals. This agreement is part of that movement, where ISRO will guide the HAL team on the preparedness-to-flight tangent of SSLV. This would define the next phase of deep-tech collaboration in space in India.”
On his part Dr. Pawan Kumar Goenka, Chairman, IN-SPACe said: “The SSLV Technology Transfer signals a vital leap towards strengthening the industrial ecosystem within India’s space sector. ISRO, HAL, NSIL, and IN-SPACe coming together for the SSLV technology transfer signals a vital leap towards this endeavour and reflects the Government of India’s vision to empower the space industry and establish India as a global hub for affordable and reliable launch services.”
“With this transfer, HAL will now independently take up the realisation of SSLV and cater to both domestic and international markets,” Goenka added.
According to Dr D K Sunil, CMD, HAL, the company will apply its engineering and manufacturing strength to build SSLVs, train the required workforce and progress towards building a self-reliant ecosystem, so India can offer regular, cost-competitive small-satellite launches to domestic and global customers.
