India return of the Kapurthala woman deferred as Pakistan moves to extend her visa

Chandigarh, Jan 13 (UNI) The return of Sarabjit Kaur, a resident of Punjab’s Kapurthala district, who travelled to Pakistan with an SGPC pilgrimage group, has been put on hold after Pakistani authorities initiated steps to extend her visa instead of repatriating her to India.
Officials in Pakistan have indicated that the decision follows approvals granted at the interior ministry level, allowing her to remain in the country while legal proceedings continue in a local court. The case is currently under consideration in Lahore, which has effectively paused any immediate move for her return.
Kaur had crossed into Pakistan on November 4 via the Attari border as part of a 10-day Sikh jatha visiting religious shrines on the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary. While the group returned to India on November 13, one pilgrim was found missing during routine checks. Subsequent verification revealed that Kaur had neither exited Pakistan officially nor re-entered India.
