New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) Amid US President Donald Trump warning of imposing 100 percent tariff on BRICS nations, which includes India, if they do not balance trade with the US, the MEA said that India and the US share very special economic ties and have established mechanisms to discuss all matters related to trade.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at a briefing:
“India US ties are strong, multifaceted, the economic ties are very special. In 2023 we reached record level of trade in goods and services amounting $190 billion.
“We have established mechanisms between US and India to discuss any matter, or matters related to trade, and we are in continuous dialogue and our approach has always been to address issues in a constructive manner which are in keeping with the interest of both countries.
“And we remain in close communication with the US administration and we would like to continue to work towards strengthening our economic partnership further.”
On the presence of Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun at the inaugural ball of Donald Trump, and his shouting Khalistan slogans, the spokesperson said:
“..As far as anti-India activities of people, individuals are concerned, we do take them up with the United States as and when those issues happen, and we will continue to take them up with the US government.”
