Indian Armymen reach Lanka for joint exercise

Colombo, Aug 13 (UNI) An Indian Army contingent arrived at Mattala Airport in Sri Lanka's Hambantota for the annual joint military exercise 'Mithrashakthi', media reports said on Tuesday.
According to Daily Mirror, the exercise is scheduled to take place from August 12 to 25 at Maduru Oya.
Upon arrival, the Indian Army personnel were warmly welcomed by Director General Infantry Major General Vajira Welagedara, Director of the Mithrashakthi Military Exercise Major General Dinesh Udugama, officials of the High Commission of India, and senior officers, reports said.
The contingent, comprising 17 officers and 103 other ranks led by Colonel Ravindra Alawat, will participate alongside 18 officers and 120 other ranks from the Sri Lanka Army's Gajaba Regiment.
"This exercise, now held for the 10th consecutive time since its inception in 2012, underscores the enduring partnership between our nations and aims to bolster regional security through mutual cooperation," said an official.
