Indian Coast Guard arrests 79 Bangladeshi fishermen for illegal fishing in Sundarban

Kolkata, Nov 18 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard has arrested at least 79 Bangladeshi fishermen in three separate operations over the past 72 hours since November 16, for entering Indian maritime territory and illegally fishing in the Sundarbans of the Bay of Bengal, official sources said today.
The ICG's operations were part of special monitoring in Indian waters following recent developments in the neighboring country, which led to the apprehension of a total of 79 Bangladeshi fishermen in mid-November 2025.
On the night of Saturday, November 16, the Indian Coast Guard intercepted a Bangladeshi trawler named Amina, detaining 29 fishermen on board. They were later arrested by the Fraserganj Coastal Police Station in the Sundarbans of South 24 Parganas. The following day, another Bangladeshi trawler, FB Mayer Doa, was intercepted by the ICG, and 26 fishermen on the vessel were detained and handed over to the police.
